The National Council on Ethics in Human Research (NCEHR) is an independent, non-governmental, voluntary organization established in 1989 by Health Canada, the Medical Research Council and The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Its mission is to advance the protection and well being of human participants in research and to foster high ethical standards for the conduct of research involving humans. NCEHR conducts enhanced site visits of research organizations interested in developing quality research participant protection programs. The results of all site visits are collected in a central database for use by other organizations. NCEHR also hosts the only national conference on research ethics. It will communicate the results of this conference through its newsletter Communiqué.
