Purpose:

To provide funding to the BC Lung Association, in partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon, and the Clean Air Coalition of BC, to conduct 6 focus groups in British Columbia that target youth, young adults, parents, coaches, and aboriginal communities to: ascertain the attitudes and use of spit tobacco in BC; develop resource materials and messages; disseminate information and results via websites; build collaborative networking to develop recommendations and next steps to address the detrimental health effects from spit tobacco use. Results will include: increased awareness and a decrease in the number of youth and young adults using spit tobacco in BC; and may serve as a working model for other groups nationwide.
